On the second Wednesday of each month from 7 to 9 pm, we transform the Bishop Planetarium into a forum for discussions at think + drink (science), a place where you can grab a beer or a glass of wine (or a soft drink) and learn about cutting-edge science in a relaxed, informal setting. Typically our “expert du jour” gives a short presentation on the topic of the month, and then opens the floor for questions and discussion.

August 8: Convincing an Ant to Stand Still: An Introduction to Scientific Illustration
Art has long played an important role in communicating scientific information. Join David Berry to discover the stories behind some of the most famous scientific illustrations and explore the challenges faced by the artists who created them. David Berry is the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. He guest curates exhibitions of rare botanical books and prints at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and teaches a course on the art of natural history at New College of Florida.
