Membership FAQs

Membership FAQs

What is the difference between membership and gifts to the annual operating fund?

Discovery Society memberships are a benefit-based way to support the Museum that encourages individuals to become active in The Bishop and is partially tax-deductible. Benefits include additional guest passes, reciprocal benefits, plus much more!

Gifts to The Bishop’s Annual Fund are general support-based gifts and are 100% tax-deductible. Supporters who give $250 or more are granted admission privileges to The Bishop until the end of the calendar year in which their gift was made. Supporters can bring up to five guests to enjoy the Museum for a total of six free admissions per visit.

The Discovery Society is our overarching program for both types of support, and many individuals choose to participate in each type. Regardless of whether you support the Museum with a benefits-based membership or fully-tax deductible gift to the annual fund, you are a member of our Discovery Society!

Thank you for your support!

Is the Museum planning to develop a digital membership platform?

YES! The Bishop is excited to announce that we are lowering our environmental impact by transitioning to a digital-only membership platform. Soon you will be able to download your membership card right to your digital wallet! This will also support our no-touch admissions process. Existing members will receive digital cards via the email we have on file. New or renewing members will automatically receive their digital benefit material. If you prefer a printed benefit materials and cards, we will assessing a $2 fulfillment fee.

As a Discovery Society member, do I need to make reservations to visit?

Yes. Members of the Discovery Society always get in free. However, due to limited capacity, we encourage members to reserve tickets online or by phone. Members of the Discovery Society who need assistance making their reservation may call 941-746-4131, ext. 117.

How many guests may I bring to member events or programs at the member rate?

You may bring as many guests as allowed on your total number of admissions as indicated on your benefits card. For example: Pathfinder members may purchase up to four tickets at the member rate for admission, events and programs.
