Reciprocal Benefits

Reciprocal Benefits

Your membership in the Discovery Society at The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, entitles you to reciprocal admission benefits to select museums and attractions as well as benefits from the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) Travel Passport Program, which offers admission to more than 600 museums and science centers worldwide outside a 90-mile radius of the The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature and/or your residence.

Pathfinder level and above members also receive reciprocal benefits at more than 1,000 North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association organizations nationwide.

Voyager level Discovery Society members and above have even more reciprocal options with the Smithsonian Affiliate Membership Program, which is like two memberships in one!  “Affiliate members” receive a national membership from the Smithsonian which includes a one-year subscription to the Smithsonian magazine.

Members of the Discovery Society must show their benefits card and ID for admission to participating organizations.

Please note: When you arrive at The Bishop to use your reciprocal benefits, please be prepared to show your home institution’s membership card and proper ID.

If your benefits expired during our temporary closure, when you use your reciprocal benefits at one of our partnering organizations, please be prepared to show the Covid-19 extension chart along with your expired card and ID to the institution you are visiting. If the institution does not accept the chart as proof of your benefits, please contact Laurie Voight at or 941-216-3463 for an updated digital card.

In the event that an institution has suspended their reciprocal program due to the effects of Covid-19 please contact Laurie Voight at or 941-216-3463 so that we may reach out to them and update our reciprocal terms.
