We’re excited to welcome you back to The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature!

The health and safety of you and our staff is our first priority. It’s important to us that you feel safe and comfortable as you enjoy your time at The Bishop.

A lot has changed since you last visited, and we want to let you know what you can expect.

We are following CDC guidelines and the guidance of state and local officials for gatherings in public places.

OUR NEW HOURS

  • 10am to 4pm, Wednesday through Saturday
  • Noon to 5pm on Sunday
  • Closed on Monday and Tuesday

TIMED TICKETING

We now have timed ticketing for all guests and members. You’re strongly encouraged to purchase your tickets online in advance to ensure that you can enter at your desired time. You may also purchase your tickets by phone by calling 941-746-4131. Entry times are 10-11am, 11am-noon, noon-1pm, 1-2pm, 2-3pm (with last entry at 3pm) Wednesday through Saturday and noon-1pm, 1-2pm, 2-3pm and 3-4pm (with last entry at 4pm) on Sunday

FACE MASKS

In alignment with CDC guidelines, Museum staff are wearing masks, and in partnership, all Museum guests over the age of 2 are also required to do so. If you do not have a mask, we will provide one for each person in your group at no charge.

If you have a health condition that prohibits you from wearing a mask, please contact us in advance of your visit so we can accommodate your needs in a way that also provides for the safety of our other guests and staff.

WHAT THE BISHOP IS DOING TO KEEP YOU SAFE

  • We have enhanced cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces, including hand railings and restrooms.
  • Per CDC guidelines and in a partnership to help our community be as safe as possible, staff members and Museum guests over age 2 are required to wear masks.
  • You’ll follow a new one-way route through the Museum.
  • We’re providing hand sanitizer stations throughout the Museum.
  • We are limiting capacity to encourage social distancing.
  • We have a new timed entry system, so online reservations are strongly encouraged.
  • Entry times are 10-11am, 11am-noon, noon-1pm, 1-2pm, 2-3pm (with last entry at 3pm) Wednesday through Saturday and noon-1pm, 1-2pm, 2-3pm and 3-4pm (with last entry at 4pm) on Sunday

WHEN YOU PLAN YOUR VISIT

  • The natural history museum, The Planetarium, the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat, the Mosaic Backyard Universe, the special exhibition Myakka River: A Florida Treasure featuring works from renowned landscape photographer Clyde Butcher, and the special exhibition Small Wonders: Insects in Focus are open during this phase.
  • We are reducing our standard admission prices during this phase. Therefore the only coupon or promotional offer we’re able to accept at this time is our “blank ticket” print advertisement with your completed artwork.
  • Following guidance from local and state officials, the Museum must limit the number of guests admitted.
  • Groups will be limited to 10 people.
  • We regret that we will not be able to admit guests before their scheduled entry time.
  • The Museum will do our best to accommodate late arrivals or walk-ins. We regret that we cannot guarantee entry due to required capacity limits.
  • Members of the Discovery Society always get in free. However, due to limited capacity, we encourage members to reserve tickets online or by phone.
  • Members of the Discovery Society who need assistance making their reservation may call 941-746-4131, ext. 117.
  • Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets before they arrive, either online or by phone.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE FOR YOUR VISIT

  • Hourly capacity is limited to encourage social distancing in alignment with CDC guidelines.
  • We regret that we will not be able to admit guests before their scheduled entry time.
  • The Museum will do our best to accommodate late arrivals or walk-ins. We regret that we cannot guarantee entry due to required capacity limits.
  • Social distancing will be encouraged and enforced by floor graphics, a new one-way route through the Museum, and staff attendants.
  • Bottle-refill water fountains will be available. Please bring your own bottle.
  • Bathrooms are available throughout the Museum. Please maintain social distancing while using them.
  • An elevator is available. We ask that one group use it at a time.
